Preterm birth occurs in approximately 8% of deliveries in Canada and is a leading cause of infant death and morbidity throughout the life course. While sPTB is associated with several different risk factors including prior sPTB, socioeconomic status, and smoking during pregnancy, the cause of most sPTBs remains unknown.
